A gestural blue arc with open edges on a broad ivory background. The energy of Blue Gesture lies in the contrast between the broad stroke and its light interruptions. The ivory background is not filler: it allows the direction and open edges of the depicted blue gestures to be recognised. It is the right-hand panel of Blue Gesture, presented here as an individual print. The effects of texture or depth are visual, not relief or materials added to the matte paper.

Blue Gesture III: a composition for the living room
Decoration in warm white, grey and wood offers a restrained base for these strokes. If you add blue, it is preferable to do so on a plain surface: repeating gestures or stripes in nearby textiles can reduce the clarity of the image's direction.
